Quick Release Valve

The Quick Release Valve does what its name indicates – it “quickly” exhausts air from the front service brake chambers for faster brake release or from spring brake chambers for faster parking brake application.

On brake applications, the Quick Release Valve serves as a “T” connector, through which air flows to the brake chambers. When the foot valve is released, the air in the chambers is allowed to exhaust quickly through the quick release valve rather than returning to the valve to exhaust.

The Quick Release Valve with Two-Way Check is used in the anti-compounding circuit to prevent the application of the spring brake while the service brake is being applied.

For example, when a driver is parking the vehicle, he may still have his foot on the brake pedal at the same time he pushes the yellow dash knob to apply the parking brakes. In this instance, the Quick Release Valve with Two-Way Check senses the application pressure from the dash valve and prevents the full application of the parking brake for as long as the service brake is applied. This action prevents the compounding effect which can cause bent chamber push rods, twisted s-cams, broken brake adjusters, damage to brake shoes or even cracking of a brake drum.
