SAF-HOLLAND Launches BrakeSight™: Real-Time Brake Pad, Rotor Wear Monitoring on Haldex ModulT® Air Disc Brakes

Muskegon, Michigan, March 15, 2026 – SAF-HOLLAND, a leading global manufacturer of heavy-duty commercial vehicle components, launches an innovative brake pad wear system, BrakeSight™. Designed to deliver continuous, real-time visibility into brake pad and rotor wear, the Haldex BrakeSight builds on the proven safety and performance advantages of air disc brakes.

By monitoring pad wear in real time, BrakeSight helps fleets service brakes at the optimal moment, extending rotor life, avoiding unnecessary repairs, and reducing overall maintenance costs. Instead of reacting to wear after damage occurs, fleets gain confidence, predictability, and control over brake maintenance.

With BrakeSight, air disc brakes deliver even greater value through smarter service intervals, improved uptime, and long-term cost protection.

How BrakeSight Works

BrakeSight is an optional feature for the Haldex ModulT® air disc brake that integrates a sensor directly into the brake caliper within the brake adjustment system. As the adjustment mechanism rotates to compensate for pad and rotor wear, BrakeSight continuously monitors this movement and translates it into a percentage of remaining pad and rotor life at each wheel end.

The sensor connects to a frame-mounted electronic control unit (ECU), which converts the signal and outputs into real-time data via CAN. Designed for both tractor and trailer air disc brakes, BrakeSight is J1939-compliant compatible with all telematics platforms. SAF-HOLLAND works with the telematics providers selected by the fleet, offering open integration without exclusive partnerships.

Built for Real-World Conditions

Designed for demanding commercial vehicle environments, BrakeSight combines durability with ease of use:

Continuous measurement of brake pad wear.
Ultrasonically welded sensor housing for long-term durability.
IP6K9K sealing for harsh road and wash-down environments.
Sensor warranty of 3 years or 350,000 miles, matching ABS coverage.
Operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.

Because all ModulT air disc brake calipers are equipped with the sensor mounting feature as standard, OEMs and fleets can easily add BrakeSight at any stage without replacing the caliper, providing maximum flexibility throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

By providing real-time insight into brake wear, BrakeSight empowers fleets to create more accurate maintenance schedules, reduce unplanned downtime, and protect high-value brake components. The result is lower total cost of ownership, improved uptime, and greater confidence in air disc brake adoption.
