Haldex Academy

Haldex Academy offers full training for new modular EB+ 4.0 trailer braking system.

Technicians who are installing and maintaining the latest Haldex trailer braking systems can now book face-to-face sessions to become fully certified in the new EBS EB+ 4.0 for trailers, thanks to the online Haldex Academy.

The completely modular EB+ 4.0 trailer braking platform added the ABS 4.0 system at the start of 2024. And now, with orders being fulfilled across Europe, mechanics in the sector need to familiarise themselves with (and become experts in) the new hardware and software, which is possible thanks to the training platform.

To access the Haldex Academy simply visit the Haldex website, where you will find a catalogue of all the training available. Face-to-face training covers not just EBS EB+ 4.0, but the entire Haldex range (including EBS Gen 1-3 at Basic or Expert level, U-ABS and more). As well as the option to book in-person training, the platform also offers e-learning and webinars.

The learning platform was launched in July 2023, immediately serving as a library of all the training modules that have been created over the last three years, meaning there is content suitable for every level of workshop technician, from those looking to learn the basics, right through to expert-level for industry leaders who want to keep up to date with the very latest innovations.

“All a customer has to do is click on ‘all courses’ and then he can see to all the training courses available,” says Grégory Guntz, technical sales engineer for Haldex and team leader for technical services in France for Haldex, part of the SAF Holland Group.

E-learning is particularly suitable for beginners or those wishing to brush up on the basics of air braking, trailer braking and actuators. These courses include video, text and 3D animations for a fully immersive learning experience and are available in up to10 different European languages.

“In e-learning, the user can follow the module on their own at their computer,” says Grégory Guntz, who led the team that built the educational platform. “There are questions in between each section to check to see if they have understood the training.

“The webinars are half way between the e-learning and the face-to-face training, So, the learners will be in their workshops or office and the trainer will face them through a live camera connection, sharing PowerPoint presentations and answering questions.” Webinars usually last between 60 and 90 minutes.

Face-to-face training is the gold standard, where Haldex experts visit customer locations and the most complex systems and concepts can be explained in depth over many hours (courses last between 8 and 16 hours). E-learning modules are particularly useful as foundation work for engineers to ensure they understand the basics before embarking on an in-depth face-to-face session, so that the best value possible value is gained form face-to-face training. If expert training is not available in a particular country then users can request it and Haldex will translate it into the required language.

Once a course is complete the technicians will be awarded with a certificate, which dealerships are able to display in their workshops to prove they are Haldex approved and certified.

However, it is not just Haldex dealers who are likely to benefit from the Academy. “Vehicle trailer OEMs have people working on production lines mounting our products who need to have this knowledge,” says Grégory Guntz. “Also, students at schools are often interested in having access to these kinds of animations and video training for their studies. Moreover, some big fleets have their own integrated workshops, so their technicians will also need this training and knowledge.”

Courses at the Haldex Academy are individually and competitively priced, though a special rate can be obtained on basic training because three individual e-learning modules – Basic Pneumatics, Basic Air Braking Systems for Trailers, and Actuators – are grouped together as the Basic Braking – Training Path, for a complete beginner or refresher course.

So impressive is the Haldex Academy that parent company SAF Holland, which purchased Haldex two years ago, is now using the same platform to offer its own training. “They were very impressed with the job we did on the platform,” says Grégory Guntz.
